The Swartz Creek boys cross country team kicked off the 2000 season at less than full strength but still managed to produce some solid performances. With veteran Nick Gatlin and newcomer Steve Shaw both out due to injury, our younger runners would need to pick up the slack. With only seven competing, everyone ran the varsity race.
Leading the way for Creek was sophomore Eric Huffman who placed 14th overall and 8th in Division I. Eric was the lone Dragon to collect hardware. Travis turned in a solid performance taking 2nd on the team and Ryan Jory continued to improve, placing 3rd on the team with 20:21. Jon, Mike, and Ryan Green took the next three places and first time varsity member Justin Heck rounded out the finishers for the Creek.
Although Swartz Creek finished a disappointing 9th in the Division I, the team is still focused on achieving preseason goals. The addition of two new team members this week as well as the anticipated return of Nick and Steve have the Dragons looking forward to improving in our next showing on September 9th at Corunna.
